Children's Service Center awarded Behavioral Health & Human Services Accreditation from The Joint Commission

Wilkes-Barre, PA – July 15, 2022 – Children's Service Center of Wyoming Valley has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® for Behavioral Health and Human Services Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization's commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. Children's Service Center has maintained consecutive re-accreditation from the Joint Commission since 2001.

Children's Service Center underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review for re-certification in April 2022. During the visit, a Joint Commission surveyor evaluated compliance with Behavioral Health and Human Services standards spanning several areas including environment of care, staff competencies, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management, performance improvement, emergency management, care delivery, and rights & responsibilities of the individual.

The Joint Commission's standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyor also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

"As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible," says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. "We commend Children's Service Center for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care."

CSC President and CEO Michael P. Hopkins said the re-accreditation results are a testament to the talent and dedication of employees who serve clients facing mental health challenges, substance use disorder, and autism spectrum disorder. "From physicians, therapists and outreach staff to our support professionals across many disciplines, everyone contributes to provide care with high-quality, and to keep our organization strong programmatically and financially to continue our mission to help those in need. We continue to grow to meet increasing numbers of clients who seek care, and to do so with the highest level of compassion for illness and trauma in the lives of our region's families."
