The Family Based Service Program provides intensive therapeutic interventions to help
youths with serious emotional health challenges stay with their families and to minimize the need for
placement in more restrictive environments such as inpatient or residential settings. The program promotes
stabilization of mental health symptoms, provides families the support needed to re- stabilize their home
environment, promotes use of natural and community based services to address both family and individual
needs for at risk of placement youth with serious mental health challenges.
Population Served: This program serves children and adolescents with serious mental health
challenges at risk of out of home placement who are between the ages 4 and 18 and who are in need of intensive
treatment and family interventions to prevent out of home placement. Children must meet eligibility and
medical necessity criteria in order to participate in this intensive family oriented treatment program.
Services: Services are provided by a team trained in the Family Based model of care, eco
systemic structural family therapy. Treatment is done in the home, school or community. This team has
weekly consultation with a Psychiatrist who oversees the youth's care. The Psychiatrist will evaluate
the youth for appropriateness to the program, assess and monitor medication, and meet weekly with the
treatment staff to closely monitor treatment progress. The program is approximately 32 weeks in length.
Staff work closely with the child, the family and school, community services.
