Our Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Specialty Department works diligently to support individuals with lifelong challenges due to prenatal alcohol exposure. PA State Rep. Brenda Pugh visited our Pennsylvania Avenue location this week to discuss this important work with Summer Krochta, Vice President of Programs, and Jessica Sachs, FASD Coordinator and Family Peer Supervisor.
FASD is often missed due to lack of awareness and recognition, overlap with other conditions, difficulty in establishing prenatal alcohol exposure, and limited assessment tools and resources. FASD has been recognized in recently approved congressional legislation as a lifelong, brain-based disability requiring coordinated services, professional education, early identification, and family-centered support. This progress reflects years of advocacy by individuals with lived experience, families, clinicians, researchers, and organizations like CSC dedicated to improving the system of care.
