Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) involves the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies to treat alcohol use disorder and opioid use disorder, which can help some people to sustain recovery. This treatment option is part of a comprehensive Substance Use Disorder Program that includes individual and group therapy, primary care, certified recovery and peer specialists, crisis intervention, and support for substance-use related medical emergencies.
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services has registered the Conyngham Primary Health Care Center as an Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) Center of Excellence, recognizing its commitment to increasing access to Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for individuals with substance use disorders in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Philosophy of Care
Our approach to treatment aligns with the American Medical Association’s definition of addiction as a “chronic, progressive, primary illness affecting the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the individual and family.” Children’s Service Center and Robinson Counseling Center are Sanctuary-Focused Organizations dedicated to creating a high-functioning, compassionate and healthy community.
Delivery of Services
Medical, nursing and support professionals provide Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) in our convenient primary care setting on the same campus as other Substance Use Disorder Services. The Conyngham Primary Health Care Center staff includes an internal medicine physician/medical director, nurse practitioners, nurses, and support staff to address patients’ primary care needs in addition to addiction medicine.
Patients can expect to receive a comprehensive assessment at the time of intake, including a discussion on what medication may be the most appropriate for their recovery needs.
In addition to primary care, patients also have access to our on-site pharmacy, lab, and mental health services, along with other resources in the Substance Use Disorder program for a fully integrated approach to treatment.
